From the moment I picked up two pairs of pliers and started crafting my first bracelet I was immediately hooked.
In chain maille, small metal rings called “jump rings” are woven together, one by one. A ring is opened with pliers, worked into its proper place, and then closed. The final result is a chain or mesh in a weave that may be simple or quite complex. Chain maille is simultaneously intricate and delicate, yet strong and substantial. As a jewelry-making technique, chain maille has seemingly endless possibilities.
I work with sterling silver rings, made by hand by the best sources. Sterling silver is pliable but durable, so luxurious, with such brilliance; though metal, it feels soft to the touch. When crafted to perfection, a silver chain maille bracelet is an amazing thing, mesmerizing as it bends and moves and molds itself to your wrist; it almost feels alive.
Jump rings come in any number of sizes, from very small to quite large. The size of the ring used in the weave determines the look of the final piece. The smaller the ring, the more intricate the weave. Crescent Maille specializes in crafting jewelry from small sized rings to create pieces that are beautifully delicate and refined.
Chain maille is a passion and a joy. Creating jewelry in traditional weaves and using these weaves as a starting point for my own designs, I strive to make jewelry that is as much a pleasure to wear as it is to behold.
