Urchin 01
Crescent Maille’s first chain maille sculpture: Urchin. “Urchin 01″ is formed from the 10-in-3 variant of the Japanese chain maille weave using 78 brass rings (18 gauge). The urchin is based on the dodecahedron, or 12-sided sphere, but the 12th side is left off to form the opening of the urchin’s shell. 3/4-inch in diameter and 1/2-inch tall, it sits absolutely flat when the open side is facing down; because of the sides, it sits stable at pretty much any angle.
